Monticello — DADD LUNCHEON AND BAKE SALE

Defensive Action Against Drugs (DADD) will have a luncheon and bake sale on Saturday March 20 at the DADD Fishing, Hunting and Boating Swap Meet. Lunch will be served from 10:30 a.m. untill 1:30 p.m. at the Armory and the general public is welcome to come by for lunch. Admission is free to the Swap Meet. Lunch includes: BBQ pork, chips and drink for $5. Also pinto beans, the trimmings and a drink is $3.50. Desserts will be $1 and up. DADD ladies will have a bake sale including cakes, pies, cookies, and candy from

9 a.m.-2 p.m. DAAD's mission is to help build a brighter, better future for our community by offering hope, education, assistance and support to the families of Wayne and surrounding counties by eliminating substance abuse.

BLOOD DRIVE AT GOLDEN YEARS NURSING HOME

Hicks Golden Years Nursing Home will be holding a blood drive on Wednesday, March 17 beginning at 2:30-5:30 p.m. Donors are encouraged to attend.



SPECIAL SINGING AT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH

There will be a special singing at Zion Baptist Church on Saturday, March 20 beginning at 6 p.m. The special singers will be: The Gospel Travelers. The church is located on Hwy. 790 Zion Rd. Everyone is welcome to attend.



SINGING AT LOWER TURKEY CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH

The Happy Travelers will be singing at the Lower Turkey Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, March 13 at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.



FIND IT HERE RALLY

A Concert featuring the musical group Article One will be presented at the Stony Point Christian Activities Building (the blue building) on Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m. (EST). Gavin Duerson, who is Area Director for Central Ky. FCA and a former UK Wildcat mascot from 96-99, will be the speaker. All youth invited to attend.



PARMLEYS GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH IS BUILDING A NEW CHURCH

Parmleys Grove Baptist Church is in the process of building a new church. CHURCH SERVICE AND LUNCH AT NEW COVENENT FELLOWSHIP

WAYNE COUNTY LITTLE LEAGUE SIGN-UPS IN PROGRESS

Wayne County Little League will begin sign-ups at the park office.

MARCH 23 IS DIABETES ALERT DAY

Tuesday, March 23, 2010 is Diabetes Alert Day. This is a one-day promotion to inform the American public about the seriousness of diabetes and to encourage Americans to find out if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes. In 2008, Kentucky had approximately 324,000 adults with diagnosed diabetes and approximately 235,000 diagnosed as having pre-diabetes. Studies have shown that type 2 diabetes can be delayed or prevented by making simple changes in lifestyle. Knowing one's risk for diabetes is a first step to that healthier lifestyle. The American Diabetes Associa-tion offers the Diabetes Risk Test which can be done online

(www.diabetes.org) or by calling 1-800-DIABETES (1-800-342-2383).



DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS

The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 105 and Auxillary meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Center on Columbia Ave. All veterans welcome.

LAKE CUMBERLAND AMERICAN RED CROSS TO CONDUCT CPR/PR AED, FIRST AID COURSE

The Lake Cumberland American Red Cross will be conducting a CPR/PR AED and First Aid course on Saturday, March 13. This course is for any health care provider, lifeguard and coast guard approved. For information call 606-678-4364.



VETERANS ASSISTANCE

Gary Jones, Field Representative for the Ky. Dept. of Veterans Affair, will be available to assist veterans in Wayne County at the National Guard Armory in Monticello. He will be there Tuesday, March 16 from 9 a.m. until

12 p.m.

Veterans and their families will be provided counseling and assistance in filing claims for state and federal benefits. Veterans need to bring a copy of their DD214 (record of military service) with them. This is a free service provided by the state of Ky. WAYNE COUNTY HORSEMAN'S ASSOCIATION

Coggins test and certificate of veterinary inspection sponsored by the Wayne County Horseman's Association will be held Saturday, March 13 from 1-4 p.m. at the Monticello-Wayne County Memorial Park. PARENTING CLASSES

PEP (Promoting Effective Parenting) classes will be held Monday nights thru April 26. The classes will be held 6:30 until 8 p.m. These classes are free for parents or anyone involved with children. SWAP MEET

Fishing Bait and Tackle, Boat Accessories and Hunting Equipment. Buy, sell or trade at the National Guard Armory on March 20. Doors will open at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Admission is free. W.C. HORSEMAN'S ASSOCIATION MEETS FIRST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH

The Wayne County Horseman's Association would like to invite you to join them on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room of the Wayne County Library. Our focus is a shared interest in the horse.

Membership, however, does not require horse ownership. There is diversity in our annual activities which include a spring and fall horse show, monthly trail rides, picnics, Coggins testing, Christmas Party and participation in community events. FREE TAX HELP

The AARP Tax-Aide site will be open at 1 p.m. in the basement of the Monticello City Hall. The site will remain open on a walk-in basis on Tuesdays only from 1-5 p.m. through April 13. The AARP Tax-Aide program was created to meet this need and to help low and middle-income taxpayers prepare and file their income tax returns with the IRS, free of charge.

Answers to tax questions are not available by phone. Please bring the following with you when you come. AMERICAN RED CROSS

The American Red Cross is accepting monetary donations to support earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Potential donors wishing to support this disaster may designate their gift to Haiti Relief. MONTICELLO MS GROUP

The Monticello MS Group monthly meeting will be temporarily moved to McDonalds in Monticello. The meetings take place the first Thursday of each month. Everyone interested is invited to attend.



FOREIGN BUYERS NOTIFICATION

The Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclo-sure Act (AFIDA) requires all foreign owners of U.S. agricultural land to report their holdings to the Secretary of Agriculture. Foreign persons who have purchased or sold agricultural land in the county are required to report the transaction to FSA within 90 days of the closing. Failure to submit the AFIDA report could result in civil penalties of up to 25 percent of the fair market value of the property.

SHARING THE LOVE OF CRAFTS

There are many opportunities to share your love of crafts in Wayne County. You may want to be a part of the Homemakers Craft Club which meets each second Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rescue Squad. Each month the club does a different craft. You may want to share a craft that you know with others in the community. The Extension Service can connect you with learners.

WAYNE COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION CENTER

Wayne County Adult Education Center has resumed classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings until 7 p.m. This will give an opportunity to individuals who aren't able to attend day classes. The center is open weekly on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Our Family Literacy program offers Parent and Children Together (PACT) Time on Tuesdays 3 p.m.-5 p.m. with homework help for school age children and Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. There will be Baby (PACT) Parent and Child Together Time.

Classes are always free. We offer many opportunities for you at the Adult Education Center: earn a gold or silver employability certificate through Work keys; earn a G.E.D.; learn to read; upgrade basic general education skills; learn to type; learn basic computer skills; study for drivers or CDL permit; enroll in family literacy; learn English as a second language; or Kentucky Para-Educators Assessment (teacher's aide test.)

WAYNE COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCIL

The Wayne County Community Health Council (Local Champions Against Drug

Use) meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 12 noon in the Wayne County Hospital cafeteria meeting room. Come a little earlier and enjoy lunch.

Health-related agencies and concerned citizens are both welcome. Be a part of helping set community wide health goals and complete projects. To date the council: has conducted and published two community health surveys and held community health fairs targeting needs identified on health surveys; serves as local Champions Groups; garnered an estimated $40,000 for Wayne County to use towards drug education and prevention efforts; and continues to develop and distribute educational material related to drug prevention efforts, parenting tips, health habits, etc.



THE HOPE CENTER

The Hope Center is in need of the following items‹paper products, cooking and baking food items, canned foods and meats, diapers, nice bedding, dishes and towels for our burn out room. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.



WAYNE COUNTY SADDLE CLUB

The Wayne County Saddle Club meeting time has been changed from the third Monday of the month to the third Tuesday of the month. We invite all horse lovers to join our club and meet with us.



ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disease which attacks the brain. It is the most common form of dementia and its causes are unknown. More than four million Americans are diagnosed with the disease.

The Alzheimer's Association would like to announce a support group for family members and caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. This monthly support group will meet at the Russell Springs Active Day Center in Russell Springs, Ky. the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The setting is a small discussion group with an emphasis on sharing feelings, thoughts and experiences.



FREE GOSPEL JAM AT ROCK WORSHIP CENTER

The Rock Worship Center in Somerset, Ky. sponsors a free Gospel Jam, cafe style, every Friday night at 7 p.m. EST. FREE FOREST STEWARDSHIP PLANS FOR PRIVATE WOODLAND OWNERS

The Kentucky Division of Forestry prepares Forest Stewardship Plans for private woodland owners as a free service.

At your request, a forester will walk over your property with you while explaining the condition of your woodland and listening to your objectives.

The forester will then make recommendations to help you set and achieve management goals for your forestland. The recommendations will be summarized in the Forest Stewardship Plan which will include information on timber production, fish and wildlife management and management for recreation, aesthetics and water quality.

SIT AND SEW

Contented Heart Quilt Guild will have a "Sit and Sew" day each first Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Quilt Shoppe. Anyone is invited to come for an hour or so and bring a project to work on.

The Wayne County Conservation District Board of Supervisors has changed their regular meeting time to 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month.
