BENCHMARK FAMILY SERVICES FOSTER PARENT ORIENTATION CLASSES

    Benchmark Family Services-Foster Care Agency is offering free orientation classes every Tuesday from 5-6 p.m. to anyone interested in becoming a foster parent or wishing to obtain information about fostering. The office is located at 200 S. Vine Street, Somerset.

FREE WAYNE COUNTY BIGGEST LOSER CHALLENGE

    There will be a free Wayne County Biggest Loser Challenge at the Wayne County Health Department kicking off on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 from 4-5 p.m. This will begin a fun, 13-week physical activity, nutrition and weight-loss program for all ages. For more information call 348-9349 ext. 8237.



FREE COOPER/CLAYTON METHOD TO STOP SMOKING

    There will be free Cooper/Clayton Method to Stop Smoking classes offered at the Wayne County Health Depart-ment. The classes will begin Jan. 5, 2012 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Class size is limited.

WAYNE CO. HUMANE SOCIETY MEETING

    The Wayne County Humane Society meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the basement of the Wayne Co. Public Library.  

Everyone is welcome to attend.



SCHOOL CANCELLATIONS FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER

    According to Superin-tendent Gary Abbott, when inclement weather or other emergencies cause Monticello Independent School to cancel classes, the announcements will be made through various media outlets. Decisions will be made as soon as possible based on administrators' analysis of current conditions and meteorological forecasts. Mr. Abbott states that he realizes parents need ample time to make alternative arrangements, and the school will attempt to announce school closings as early as possible on days with  

questionable weather.    The following media outlets will be used to  

post school closings: local radio stations: 101.7 (WKYM), 93.1 (WMKZ), 1360 AM (WFLW), and Lexington television stations (channels 18, 27 and 36.)



WAYNE COUNTY EXTENSION HOMEMAKERS COOKBOOK FOR SALE

    The Wayne County Extension Homemakers Cookbook, "Sharing Our Best"  is available for $15.00 at the Extension Office, located at 255 Rolling Hills Blvd.  The book would make a wonderful gift! For more information call (606) 348-8453.



FREE EXERCISE CLASS

    All senior ladies in the community are invited to attend free exercise classes at the Nazarene Church Family Life Center on HWY 90.  

We will have instructor led classes with age appropriate exercises on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. The exercises will focus on endurance, strength, balance and flexibility. These sessions will also include a time of devotion and prayer. The goal is to strengthen the bodies, minds and spirits of women in our community. 150th YEAR COMMEMORATIVE CIVIL WAR CALENDAR  and REPRINTS OF WAYNE COUNTY TIMES ILLUSTRATED AVAILABLE

    The 2012 Wayne County Historical Society 150th Year Commemora-tive Civil War Calendar is available for $10 each. In addition, reprints of Wayne County Times Illustrated, edited and published by Jerry Gibson Vol. 1, Numbers 1, 2 and 3 are available. The cost for each is $22, tax included. The cost of a bundle of No. 1, 2 and 3 is $60, tax included. Calendars and reprints will be in the Elizabeth Furr Duncan Historical Library, 65 N. Main St.,



Monticello, Ky. 42633 LIVING WELL WITH DIABETES CLASSES

    Living Well with Diabetes, a four class series, will be offered for free by the Wayne County Health Department. Classes will be from 1-3:30 p.m. on December 6, 13, 20 & 27, and February 6, 13, 20 & 27.  

An evening class will also be offered. Class four will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, January 23.

    A graduate class, an advanced class for those who have completed the four class series, will be from 10-11 a.m. on February 6, covering  

the topic of protecting your kidneys.    Preregistration is required. To

FSA REDUCING NUMBER OF MAILINGS SENT TO PRODUCERS

    Farm Service Agency is reducing the number of mailings sent to producers. In the future, many announcements and reminders will be done electronically. Farmers and other FSA customers are encouraged to contact FSA to provide email address and current home or cell phone number.  Wayne County FSA can be contacted by emailing this

MONTICELLO ELEMENTARY SBDM

    The Monticello Elementary SBDM will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:15 p.m. in the Media Center.

BELL ELEMENTARY SBDM COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING

    The Bell Elementary SBDM Council meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month in the school library at 4 p.m.



WAYNE COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION

    Wayne County Adult Education is open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. All our services are free. Call 348-5286 for more information.



WAYNE COUNTY HORSEMAN'S ASSOCIATION MEETS FIRST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH

    The Wayne County Horseman's Association would like to invite you to join them on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Rescue Squad building located on Boone Street, Monticello, Ky. Our focus is a shared interest in the horse. Membership, however, does not require horse ownership. There is diversity in our annual activities which include horse shows, monthly trail rides, picnics, Coggins testing, Christmas party and participation in community events. WAYNE COUNTY FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETINGS

    The Wayne County Family Resource Center Advisory Council conducts meetings on the second Wednesday of every other month at 12 noon in the Family Resource Center office at Bell Elementary.

DAAD MEETING

    Come to a Defensive Action Against Drugs (DAAD) meeting and help take back your community from drugs. DAAD meets each fourth Thursday night at 6:30  p.m. at the ASPIRE Center. The meetings are free and open to everyone who would like to attend.



CELEBRATE RECOVERY

    Celebrate Recovery meets each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the ASPIRE Center. Celebrate Recov-ery is a free Christ centered support group for anyone who has hurts, habits or hangups which includes just about all of us. COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS LAKE CUMBERLAND CHAPTER

    A local chapter of The Compassionate Friends has been started in the Monticello area.

    The Compassionate Friends is a mutual assistance, self-help organization offering friendship and understanding to families who have experienced the death of a child. The organization welcomes bereaved parents, adult siblings, grandparents, and immediate family members to its meetings.

    Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at Monticello United Methodist Church, 145 Michigan Avenue at 7 p.m. For additional information contact Jenny West, Chapter Leader at 340-1955.



OPEN GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

    An Open Grief Support Group, hosted by Hospice of Lake Cumberland, will be held the second Monday of every month from 6-8 p.m., EST at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Monticello office, located at 1219 North Main Street, Suite 5.

MONTICELLO MS GROUP

    Monticello MS Group will have their monthly meeting on the first Thursday of every month at Rosa's Cumberland Dairy at 6 p.m.

        

STATE SERVICE OFFICER WILL BE AT SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER EACH WEDNESDAY

    Donnie Blevins, Service Officer for the Disabled American Veterans, will be at the Senior Citizens Building every Wednesday from 10 a.m.  

until 3 p.m. Any veterans or dependents in need of assistance should stop by during these hours.

                                                            

NEW COVENANT FELLOWSHIP

SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER ACTIVITIES

    The Wayne County Senior Citizens Center offers a variety of

activities: grocery shopping, monthly blood pressure checks, day and afternoon shopping trips, an annual health clinic, exercise daily, health and nutrition speakers, transportation to and from the center, well-balanced meals served at 11:30 a.m., Canasta Club and Rook card games.     The Life Abundant Ministry (LAM) Healing Rooms are open on Tuesday from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. and on Thursday from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. There is a service on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and a Saturday Intercessory prayer is held at 4:30 p.m. The Life Abundant Ministry healing room provides a different guest speaker every Tuesday evening service.
