HOMECOMING/ CEMETERY FUND SUNDAY AT SPANN HILL BAPTIST CHURCH
Spann Hill Baptist Church will be having their Homecoming/Cemetery Fund
Sunday on May 16. There will be no Sunday School but the worship service
begins at 10:30 a.m., with a fellowship meal to follow. There will be
special singing featuring the Kentucky Mountain Trio and others. Bro. Roy

REVIVAL AT OLD UNION SEPARATE BAPTIST CHURCH
The Old Union Separate Baptist Church will be having revival beginning
on May 2 at 6:30 nightly. The Evangelist will be Bro. Troy Grider, the

FLORAL ARRANGING CLASS
A floral arranging class will take place at the Wayne County High School
Cafeteria on Tuesday, April 27 from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $20 all
participants will take home at least one floral creation.
CHILD PLUS FAIR
The Child Plus Fair will be underway this Friday, April 30 at the local
Aspire Center. The event is held to help parents of future preschoolers and
kindergartners to register their children for school and learn about the
wealth of programs offered in the community to meet their needs. The fun
event for the youngest learners is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is
invited to attend.
FINAL PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE MEETING
The Wayne County School educators will be welcoming parents to their
classrooms on Tuesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 29 from 3:45-7:00 p.m.
This will be the final formally scheduled parent teacher conference of the
current school year. These conferences provide teachers and parents an
opportunity to discuss the progress each student is making at the midpoint
of the nine-week grading period.
PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR WCHS TO HOLD ELECTION
The Parent Advisory Committee of Wayne County High School will hold an
election to elect two (2) parent members to the School Based Decision Making
Council for the 2010-2011 school year. Voting will take place on Wednesday,
May 5 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Wayne County High School
Administrative Office.
The following parents have been nominated to serve on the council: Danny
Adams, Rickey Sexton and Sheila Dishman.
NEWTOWN BAPTIST CHURCH WILL BE CELEBRATING THEIR ANNIVERSARY
The Newtown Baptist Church on Lewis St. will be celebrating an

VETERANS ASSISTANCE OFFICER TO ASSIST AREA VETERANS
Gary Jones, Field Representative for the Ky. Dept of Veterans Affairs,
will be available to assist veterans in Wayne County at the National Guard
Armory in Monticello, Ky. He will be there on Tuesday, May 18 from 9 a.m.
through 12 p.m. Veterans and their families will be provided counseling and
assistance in filing claims for state and federal benefits. This is a free
service provided by the state of Kentucky. Veterans should bring a copy of
their DD214 (record of military service) with them, if they have it and any
other documents they feel could help with their claim. For Further

New Salem Baptist Church will be having revival services continuing

PYLES REUNION
Families of the late Dock and Belle Campbell Pyles which include Thomas
and Lola Pyles, Eugene and Tilda Stintson Pyles, Marcus and Amanda Pyles

SLAVEN FAMILY REUNION
Reunion for Slaven, Slavin, Slavy, Slavey (any spelling)
The Slaven Family Reunion will be on Saturday, June 5 between 10 and 3
at the McCreary Co. Sand Hill Camp shelter house. If you are a Slaven or
descended from a Slaven from along the Ky./Tenn. line you are invited to get
to know your extended family and learn more about your history. Please write
down and bring with you as many names and dates on as many family members as
you can. Bring old photos and stories to share. It will be a "pitch in
dinner". Bring enough food and soft drinks for your family and a little
extra to share with others. Plates, cups, napkins, and silverware will be

ELDER ABUSE MEETING
The Regional Meeting of the Lake Cumberland Area Development District
Elder Abuse Council will be on April 29. The meeting will start at 10 a.m.

CODY BIRCHELL MEMORIAL CANCER MOTORCYCLE RIDE
A ride is scheduled for May 8 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Bowling Green
Harley Davidson Store. This is a fund raising event to benefit The American
Cancer Society and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Cody died from Leukemia in 2002. He was very passionate about helping
others and this fund raiser is an effort in his honor to help find a cure.
He wanted to sign up for every case study that was offered even after one
of the new medications being studied almost took his life. If you would like

The Wayne County Horseman's Association with the generous support of the

student in Wayne County Schools is invited to a very special evening of

tributes. This class will be taught by local floral artist, Danny Conley, on

FREE CLASSES BEING OFFERED ON DIABETES
The Wayne County Health Department will be hosting free classes on
living well with diabetes. At the meeting you will learn the latest
information on health eating, medications, problem solving, activity, and
reducing your health risks.
Each session will cover different topics plus each class will include
nutrition information, snacks and door prizes.
The classes will be on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The remaining
meeting will take place on April 28.

FIGHT AGAINST DRUGS GUIDED ATV/UTV RIDE
The Fight Against Drugs guided ATV/UTV Ride will be held on Saturday,
August 21, at 9 a.m. The ride will begin at Slickford, Ky. and proceed to
Pickett State Park, Tenn. and then back to Slickford, Ky. The ride will
include scenic overlooks, beautiful rock formations, and the famous car
hauler trail. This event is open to anyone who wants to participate in a
drug free ride.
Donations will be accepted. Donations will support anti-drug activities
for the Wayne County Schools and will go to fund scholarships for several
teens who have used their talents, abilities and time to promote a drug free
lifestyle.

SHARING THE LOVE OF CRAFTS
There are many opportunities to share your love of crafts in Wayne
County. You may want to be a part of the Homemakers Craft Club which meets
each second Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rescue Squad. Each month the club does
a different craft. You may want to share a craft that you know with others

WAYNE COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION CENTER
Wayne County Adult Education Center has resumed classes on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings until 7 p.m. This will give an opportunity to individuals
who aren't able to attend day classes. The center is open weekly on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m.-7
p.m. Our Family Literacy program offers Parent and Children Together (PACT)
Time on Tuesdays 3 p.m.-5 p.m. with homework help for school age children
and Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. There will be Baby (PACT) Parent and Child
Together Time.
Classes are always free. We offer many opportunities for you at the
Adult Education Center: earn a gold or silver employability certificate
through Work keys; earn a G.E.D.; learn to read; upgrade basic general
education skills; learn to type; learn basic computer skills; study for
drivers or CDL permit; enroll in family literacy; learn English as a second
language; or Kentucky Para-Educators Assessment (teacher's aide test.)

WAYNE COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCIL
The Wayne County Community Health Council (Local Champions Against Drug
Use) meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 12 noon in the Wayne County
Hospital cafeteria meeting room. Come a little earlier and enjoy lunch.
Health-related agencies and concerned citizens are both welcome. Be a part
of helping set community wide health goals and complete projects. To date
the council: has conducted and published two community health surveys and
held community health fairs targeting needs identified on health surveys;
serves as local Champions Groups; garnered an estimated $40,000 for Wayne
County to use towards drug education and prevention efforts; and continues
to develop and distribute educational material related to drug prevention
efforts, parenting tips, health habits, etc.

The Hope Center is in need of the following items‹paper products,
cooking and baking food items, canned foods and meats, diapers, nice
bedding, dishes and towels for our burn out room. Any donations would be

WAYNE COUNTY SADDLE CLUB
The Wayne County Saddle Club meeting time has been changed from the
third Monday of the month to the third Tuesday of the month. We invite all
horse lovers to join our club and meet with us.
ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disease which attacks
the brain. It is the most common form of dementia and its causes are
unknown. More than four million Americans are diagnosed with the disease.
The Alzheimer's Association would like to announce a support group for
family members and caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. This
monthly support group will meet at the Russell Springs Active Day Center in
Russell Springs, Ky. the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The setting is
a small discussion group with an emphasis on sharing feelings, thoughts and
experiences.
