5-4-10 — HOMECOMING/ CEMETERY FUND  SUNDAY AT SPANN HILL BAPTIST CHURCH

    Spann Hill Baptist Church will be having their Homecoming/Cemetery Fund

Sunday on May 16. There will be no Sunday School but the worship service

begins at 10:30 a.m., with a fellowship meal to follow. There will be

special singing featuring the Kentucky Mountain Trio and others. Bro. Roy

Gregory, pastor, and the congregation invites everyone to attend.



REVIVAL AT OLD UNION SEPARATE BAPTIST CHURCH

    The Old Union Separate Baptist Church will be having revival beginning

on May 2 at 6:30 nightly. The Evangelist will be Bro. Troy Grider, the

Pastor is Bro. Johnny Davis. Everyone is welcome. The church is located on

Hwy 1009 just off Hwy 200, in the Slickford community.



FLORAL ARRANGING CLASS

    A floral arranging class will take place at the Wayne County High School

Cafeteria on Tuesday, April 27 from 7-9 p.m. The cost is $20 all

participants will take home at least one floral creation.



CHILD PLUS FAIR

    The Child Plus Fair will be underway this Friday, April 30 at the local

Aspire Center. The event is held to help parents of future preschoolers and

kindergartners to register their children for school and learn about the

wealth of programs offered in the community to meet their needs. The fun

event for the youngest learners is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is

invited to attend.



FINAL PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE  MEETING

    The Wayne County School educators will be welcoming parents to their

classrooms on Tuesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 29 from 3:45-7:00 p.m.

This will be the final formally scheduled parent teacher conference of the

current school year. These conferences provide teachers and parents an

opportunity to discuss the progress each student is making at the midpoint

of the nine-week grading period.



PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR WCHS TO HOLD ELECTION

    The Parent Advisory Committee of Wayne County High School will hold an

election to elect two (2) parent members to the School Based Decision Making

Council for the 2010-2011 school year. Voting will take place on Wednesday,

May 5 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Wayne County High School

Administrative Office.

    The following parents have been nominated to serve on the council: Danny

Adams, Rickey Sexton and Sheila Dishman.



NEWTOWN BAPTIST CHURCH WILL BE CELEBRATING THEIR ANNIVERSARY

    The Newtown Baptist Church on Lewis St. will be celebrating an

anniversary and homecoming on Sunday, May 2.

    The service will start at 10 a.m., there will be a special singing

beginning at 11 a.m.  with the the Kentucky Mountain Trio. Dinner will

follow. Everyone is invited to attend.



LAKE CUMBERLAND AREA CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN RED CROSS'S ANNUAL MEETING

    The Lake Cumberland Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting

its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 12 at noon at the Red Cross office, 155

Enterprise Drive, Somerset (behind the Somerset Mall). Lunch will be

    Immanuel Baptist Church will be having a Prophecy-End Times Revival

THE PRIMITIVE  QUARTET TO  PERFORM AT STONY POINT BAPTIST CHURCH

    The Primitive Quartet from Candler, North Carolina will be performing at

RELAY FOR LIFE FREE BENEFIT GOSPEL SINGING

    The Relay for Life will have a free benefit gospel singing on May 15 at

6 p.m. Please bring your lawn chairs and be prepared to have a good time.

All concessions and donations will be given to The Relay for Life. The

singing will be held at Lake Cumberland RV Park, located on Gibson Lane just

off Hwy 90.



ALL BREED FUN HORSE SHOW HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED

    Due to a fire and impending rain storms the Wayne County Horseman's

Association and 4-H has rescheduled the All Breed Fun Horse Show for

Saturday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m. at the Monticello Wayne County Park.



CLINTON COUNTY CARE AND REHAB RELAY FOR LIFE BABY SHOW

    The Clinton County Care and Rehab Relay for Life 1st Annual Baby Show

will be on Friday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at the Clinton County Community Center.



THE FATHER'S HOUSE HOMECOMING

    The Father's House Homecoming will be Sunday, May 9 starting at 10 a.m.

The Kentucky Mountain Trio will be singing.



WAYNE COUNTY  DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS WILL BE TAKING DONATIONS

    The Wayne County Disabled American Veterans will be taking donations at

the Hwy 90 and Hwy 1275 intersections on Saturday, May 1 beginning at 10

a.m. All donations are used locally. Thank you for your support.



LICK CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH HOMECOMING

    The Lick Creek Baptist Church will be having their annual homecoming on

Sunday, May 2 beginning at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served at 12 noon. Everyone

is welcome.



VETERANS ASSISTANCE OFFICER TO ASSIST AREA VETERANS

    Gary Jones, Field Representative for the Ky. Dept of Veterans Affairs,

will  be available to assist veterans in Wayne County at the National Guard

Armory in Monticello, Ky. He will be there on Tuesday, May 18 from 9 a.m.

through 12 p.m. Veterans and their families will be provided counseling and

assistance in filing claims for state and federal benefits. This is a free

service provided by the state of Kentucky. Veterans should bring a copy of

their DD214 (record of military service) with them, if they have it and any

other documents they feel could help with their claim. For Further

ROGERS GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH TO HOLD DEDICATION SERVICE

    Rogers Grove Baptist Church will have a dedication service for their new

building on Sunday, May 2 at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.



KLASSYC TYMES CONCERT

    Klassyc Tymes will be in concert on April 30 at 7 p.m. at the Pickerell

Auditorium. Admission will be $7. Tickets may be purchased from any W.C.

Band Booster member an will also be available at the door. Proceeds will

benefit the Wayne County Band Boosters.



REVIVAL SERVICES AT NEW SALEM BAPTIST CHURCH

    New Salem Baptist Church will be having revival services continuing

through Wednesday night, April 28. The nightly services will start at 6:30

p.m. and the speakers are Tuesday‹Bro. Tommy Floyd and Wednesday‹Bro. Mike

Mitchell. There will be special singing at each service. Bro. Keith McKim is

the Pastor, everyone is invited to attend.



PYLES REUNION

    Families of the late Dock and Belle Campbell Pyles which include Thomas

and Lola Pyles, Eugene and Tilda Stintson Pyles, Marcus and Amanda Pyles

Upchurch and Sam and Lila Pyles Guffey, are welcome to attend the Pyles

Family Reunion. The reunion will take place on Saturday, May 8 from 12 noon

to 1 p.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church in the Family Life Center next to

the First Southern Bank on Main Street. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

KIDS NOW CLASS

    Are you pregnant? If so you are invited to a KIDS NOW, two-hour

educational program, "The No's of Pregnancy." Each participant will receive

a gift bag for baby, plus chances to win other prizes, A light lunch will be

provided for mom and one guest. The class will be held at the Wayne County

Health Department on May 12 from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m.  For more information,

SLAVEN FAMILY REUNION

    Reunion for Slaven, Slavin, Slavy, Slavey (any spelling)

    The Slaven Family Reunion will be on Saturday, June 5 between 10 and 3

at the McCreary Co. Sand Hill Camp shelter house. If you are a Slaven or

descended from a Slaven from along the Ky./Tenn. line you are invited to get

to know your extended family and learn more about your history. Please write

down and bring with you as many names and dates on as many family members as

you can. Bring old photos and stories to share. It will be a "pitch in

dinner". Bring enough food and soft drinks for your family and a little

extra to share with others. Plates, cups, napkins, and silverware will be

furnished. Make your reservations early, contact the Chamber of Commerce for

listing of motels.



ELDER ABUSE  MEETING

    The Regional Meeting of the Lake Cumberland Area Development District

Elder Abuse Council will be on April 29. The meeting will start at 10 a.m.

CDT  in the Lake Cumberland Area Development District Conference Room in

Russell Springs.

    All public officials, law enforcement officials, and concerned citizens

against elder abuse are encouraged to attend and become involved.

GAP CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH REVIVAL SERVICES

    The Gap Creek Baptist Church will have revival services continuing to

April 30 starting at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.



CODY BIRCHELL MEMORIAL CANCER MOTORCYCLE RIDE

    A ride is scheduled for May 8 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Bowling Green

Harley Davidson Store. This is a fund raising event to benefit The American

Cancer Society and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

    Cody died from Leukemia in 2002. He was very passionate about helping

others and this fund raiser is an effort in his honor to help find a cure.

He  wanted to sign up for every case study that was offered even after one

of the new medications being studied almost took his life. If you would like

1960 WCHS CLASS REUNION

    The WCHS 1960 class members will hold a meeting Friday, April 30 at 5

p.m. at Shearer's Buffet regarding the 50 year reunion plans. Any class

WAYNE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL NEEDS MEMBERS FOR SBDM FOR 2010-2011

    The Wayne County High School Parent Advisory Committee will hold the

election for the parent members of the W.C.H.S. SBDM School Council on

Wednesday, May 5. You may vote at the front office of the high school from 7

a.m. to 5 p.m. The slate of nominees will be listed in the local newspaper

the week of April 26 prior to election.



REVIVAL AT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH

    There will be a revival at Zion Baptist Church Sunday, May 2 at 6:30

p.m. nightly. The Evangelists are Bro. Kenneth Thompson and Bro. David

A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES

    The Wayne County Horseman's Association with the generous support of the

Monticello Banking Company is  hosting a movie night at the Wayne Theater on

April 30 at 7 p.m.

    The feature film is an American story about an undersized racehorse, a

jockey, a trainer and a businessman who took the entire nation on a ride of

a lifetime. The movie is rated PG-13. For more information call 348-8258.



COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION CLASSES

    Community and education classes will be available to all residents of

Wayne County and Monticello. The classes are as follows:

    English as a second language‹Meets each Monday through June 7 from

5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Middle School. Food and Child care will

be provided free.

    GRAND Parenting‹Any grandparent providing care for or guardianship of a

student in Wayne County Schools is invited to a very special evening of

honor.  Come learn about programs that can help you financially support your

grandchildren and special services available to help you help your

grandchildren be successful in school. Meals provided for adults and

children.  Child care provided.  Speakers include: Wayne Co. Schools

administration, Lake Cumberland Area Development District Family Caregiver

Program, local attorney, and others.  To be held in the cafeteria at Walker

Elementary School, Thursday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m.

    Floral Arranging‹Learn to make your own arrangements or memorial

tributes. This class will be taught by local floral artist, Danny Conley, on

April 27 at the Wayne County High School Cafeteria  from 7-9 p.m.  The cost

is $20.  Students will  get to take home one floral creation.

    Staff & Volunteer Appreciation Picnic‹May 6. Location: TBA. Free for

staff and school volunteers.

    After School Arts: Make Your Own Flip Flops‹This activity will be held

on May 10 after school till 5 p.m. at Bell Elementary. The class is  open to

students grades 3-12.  The cost is $10

    After School Arts: Make Your Own Beach Towel Backpack‹This event will be

held on May 17 after school till 5 p.m. at Bell Elementary. Open to students

grades 3-12, the cost is $15.



FREE CLASSES BEING OFFERED ON DIABETES

    The Wayne County Health Department will be hosting free classes on

living well with diabetes. At the meeting you will learn the latest

information on health eating, medications, problem solving, activity, and

reducing your health risks.

    Each session will cover different topics plus each class will include

nutrition information, snacks and door prizes.

    The classes will be on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The remaining

meeting will take place on April 28.

THE BURNSIDE WOMEN'S CLUB IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SCHOLARSHIP

    The Burnside Women's Civic Club is accepting applications for the Lousie

Kiser Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is open to any college student

who will be enrolled in a Ky. College for the Fall 2010 semester and has

FIGHT AGAINST DRUGS GUIDED ATV/UTV RIDE

    The Fight Against Drugs guided ATV/UTV Ride will be held on Saturday,

August 21, at 9 a.m. The ride will begin at Slickford, Ky. and proceed to

Pickett State Park, Tenn. and then back to Slickford, Ky. The ride will

include scenic overlooks, beautiful rock formations, and the famous car

hauler trail. This event is open to anyone who wants to participate in a

drug free ride.

    Donations will be accepted. Donations will support anti-drug activities

for the Wayne County Schools and will go to fund scholarships for several

teens who have used their talents, abilities and time to promote a drug free

lifestyle.

MISSING PHOTOS

    The Alumni Association of the former Carlisle High School is seeking to

locate missing photos of six of the past CHS classes. Missing from a

collection on display at the Nicholas County Public Library are photos of

the CHS graduating classes of 1908, 1910, 1913, 1914, and 1919. Individuals

who may have any of the photos, or who may have information regarding the

W.C. HORSEMAN'S ASSOCIATION MEETS FIRST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH

    The Wayne County Horseman's Association would like to invite you to join

them on the first Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room

of the Wayne County Library. Our focus is a shared interest in the horse.

Membership, however, does not require horse ownership.

    There is diversity in our annual activities which include a spring and

fall horse show, monthly trail rides, picnics, Coggins testing, Christmas

Party and participation in community events. As a result of our fund raising

    The Monticello MS Group monthly meeting will be temporarily moved to

DAAD MEETING

    Come to a Defensive Action Against Drugs (DAAD) meeting and help take

back your community from drugs. DAAD meets each fourth Thursday night at

    Celebrate Recovery meets each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the ASPIRE

    The Wayne County Senior Citizen Center offers a variety of activities:

grocery shopping, monthly blood pressure checks, day and afternoon shopping

trips, annual health clinic, exercise daily, health and nutrition speakers,

transportation to and from the center, well-balanced meals served at 11:30

    The Life Abundant Ministry (LAM) Healing Rooms are open on Tuesday from

4 p.m.-6 p.m. and on Thursday from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. There is a service on

Tuesday at 7 p.m. and a Saturday Intercessory prayer is held at 4:30 p.m.

WAYNE COUNTY ADULT EDUCATION CENTER

    Wayne County Adult Education Center has resumed classes on Tuesday and

Thursday evenings until 7 p.m. This will give an opportunity to individuals

who aren't able to attend day classes. The center is open weekly on Monday,

Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8 a.m.-7

p.m. Our Family Literacy program offers Parent and Children Together (PACT)

Time on Tuesdays 3 p.m.-5 p.m. with homework help for school age children

and Wednesdays from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. There will be Baby (PACT) Parent and Child

Together Time.

    Classes are always free. We offer many opportunities for you at the

Adult Education Center: earn a gold or silver employability certificate

through Work keys; earn a G.E.D.; learn to read; upgrade basic general

education skills; learn to type; learn basic computer skills; study for

drivers or CDL permit; enroll in family literacy; learn English as a second

language; or Kentucky Para-Educators Assessment (teacher's aide test.)

FAITH WEAVER FRIENDS AT ELK SPRING VALLEY BAPTIST CHURCH

WAYNE COUNTY COMMUNITY HEALTH COUNCIL

    The Wayne County Community Health Council (Local Champions Against Drug

Use) meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 12 noon in the Wayne County

Hospital cafeteria meeting room. Come a little earlier and enjoy lunch.

Health-related agencies and concerned citizens are both welcome. Be a part

of helping set community wide health goals and complete projects. To date

the council: has conducted and published two community health surveys and

held community health fairs targeting needs identified on health surveys;

serves as local Champions Groups; garnered an estimated $40,000 for Wayne

County to use towards drug education and prevention efforts; and continues

to develop and distribute educational material related to drug prevention

efforts, parenting tips, health habits, etc.

    The Hope Center is in need of the following items‹paper products,

cooking and baking food items, canned foods and meats, diapers, nice

bedding, dishes and towels for our burn out room. Any donations would be

greatly appreciated.



WAYNE COUNTY SADDLE CLUB

    The Wayne County Saddle Club meeting time has been changed from the

third Monday of the month to the third Tuesday of the month. We invite all

horse lovers to join our club and meet with us.

   

ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION

    Alzheimer's disease is a progressive, degenerative disease which attacks

the brain. It is the most common form of dementia and its causes are

unknown. More than four million Americans are diagnosed with the disease.

The Alzheimer's Association would like to announce a support group for

family members and caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease. This

monthly support group will meet at the Russell Springs Active Day Center in

Russell Springs, Ky. the last Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The setting is

a small discussion group with an emphasis on sharing feelings, thoughts and

experiences.
