Wayne County's jobless rate decreased more than one percent from May to June, according to the latest figures released by the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.
The local unemployment rate was 11.7 percent in June, down from 12.8 percent in May. In June 2009, the jobless rate in Wayne County was 13.6 percent.
In the Lake Cumberland area, which includes 10 counties, the unemployment rate dropped from 10.8 percent in May to 10.5 percent in June. In June of 2009, the unemployment rate was 11.7 percent.
The lowest rate in the area in June was 9.6 percent which was recorded in Pulaski County. The highest rate in the area was 13.7 percent which was recorded in McCreary County.
Eight of the 10 counties had double digit unemployment in June.
Other rates in the area were: Adair County, 10 percent; Casey County, 10.8 percent; Clinton County, 9.8 percent; Cumberland County, 10.9 percent; Green County, 11.3 percent; Russell County, 10.4 percent; and Taylor County, 10.3 percent.
Fayette and Woodford counties recorded the state's lowest jobless rates at 7.8 percent each. They were followed by: Calloway County, 8 percent; Oldham County, 8.2 percent; Ballard and Madison counties, 8.5 percent each; and McCracken County, 8.6 percent.
Magoffin County recorded the state's highest unemployment rate at 19 percent. It was followed by: Jackson County, 16.4 percent; Menifee County, 16.3 percent; Metcalfe County, 15 percent; and Wolfe County, 14.5 percent.
