Monticello — The final 2009 Grant Award numbers are in and Wayne County received just
under two million dollars in federal, state and other grant funding sources
for the year 2009. Wayne County totaled $1,995,059 in various grants used
for many different projects throughout the county.
³At the end of the year to finish with nearly two million dollars in
grants is certainly something we¹re proud of. Anytime we can improve our
citizens¹ services, whether it is through sewer lines, new blacktop,
recycling opportunities, or better law enforcement and emergency equipment,
at no cost to our local taxpayer it is always a good thing. We understand in
these tough economic times that funding projects is not easy, but we
continue to work with agencies to seek any grant funding that is available,²
said County Judge-Executive Greg Rankin.
Several highlights from the funding cycle included an Economic
Development grant for $805,000 to extend a sewer line, $212,000 for blacktop
resurfacing, $145,000 in State Transpor-tation funds for a bridge
replacement, plus the Wayne County Solid Waste and Recycling program has
received $101,836 from three grants to clean up illegal dump sites, continue
roadside litter abatement and enhance a fast growing recycling program.
³The recycling program just continues to grow and the litter abatement
grant allows for many youth groups, school groups and church groups to
receive valuable funding, while hopefully developing a sense of community
pride and environmental education,² said Rankin.
