Former District Two Magistrate Darrell Dishman dies

Monticello — Eleven days after resigning as District Two Magistrate, Darrell Dishman

lost his battle with cancer. Dishman, 60, died on Sunday, January 24 at his

home.

A local businessman, Dishman was serving his first term as magistrate,

when he was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago. He was beginning the

final year of his term, when he decided to resign because of health reasons

on January 13. He attended the Thursday, January 14 meeting of fiscal court,

where County Judge-Executive Greg Rankin read his letter of resignation.

In a statement released on Monday by Rankin, he noted that the fiscal

court lost a valued friend and magistrate with the loss of Dishman.

"Darrell, first and foremost, was my good friend and it's extremely

heartbreaking for all of his family and friends," stated Rankin. "We had the

honor of working together for over three years and his presence will be

missed. Words are hard at times like this, but in my opinion the citizens of

District Two lost a good friend, hard worker, and he was a friend to all of

Wayne County. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with his family.

Darrell meant so much to so many people."

Dishman is survived by his wife, Ruth; two sons, Jeffrey and Donnie; a

daughter, Becky; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 27 in the chapel of the

Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home. Burial was in the Dishman Family Cemetery.

The Wayne County Courthouse was closed on Wednesday in honor and memory

of Dishman.
