Monticello School Board sets instructional time for 2008-09 school year

Monticello — Students at Monticello will start and end their days at the same time as

this year, following action taken by the Monticello Independent Board of

Education during their meeting Monday evening, May 12.

The board set the instructional time for the 2008-09 school year from 8

a.m. to 3 p.m., with a six-period modified block schedule. Superintendent

Donnie Robison noted that this schedule had worked well this year and he

recommended that the board approve the same instructional time for next

year.

In other action, the board approved full utilization and collaboration

with Lake Cumberland Head Start for the 2008-09 school year. Robison noted

that because of the school's tighter budget there would be some changes in

the agreement.

The board also appointed Glenette Hurd as treasurer for the 2008-09

school year. There is a $300,000 bond on the treasurer, which is with State

Farm Insurance. In addition, the board approved the bonding of all employees

for the 2008-09 school year. These bonds are with State Farm Insurance as

well. The bonds are in the amounts of $5,000 for all employees and $20,000

for the principal.

In other news, the board:

€ voted to advertise for bids on various supplies for the 2008-09 school

year.

€ approved the contract with Adanta for the 2008-09 school year.

€ appointed both First Southern National Bank and Monticello Banking

Company as the banks of depository for the 2008-09 school year.

€ accepted the second reading and amended Monticello School staffing

policy #02.4331

€ set a special meeting for Thursday, May 29 at 5 p.m. for the purpose

of discussing/approving the tentative budget for the 2008-09 school year.

€ heard a report from Superintendent Donnie Robison. He asked that the

board approve four calamity days if the education commissioner approves

them. In addition, Robison stated that the Lady Trojans Basketball Team had

requested permission to go to Orlando, Florida in December. He noted that

they would be raising the money for the trip. The board granted the team

permission.
