Downtown Third Thursday dates are set for 2013

2-20-13 —     The Monticello-Wayne County Events Committee recently met and has  set the dates for the 2013 Downtown Third Thursday on the Square  Concert Series.

The series will have concerts on May 16, June 20, July 18, August 15  and a yet to be determined bluegrass/gospel show on a Sunday  evening.  The committee is also looking at adding some new wrinkles to a very popular series in 2013.

"Last year we had a tremendous summer of great concerts with  excellent attendance, but we think we can add some features that will  make the Third Thursday events even better this year.  We have  discussed adding a car show each concert, plus possibly having some  opening acts and we're adding corn-hole boards to possibly have some

tournaments, before the live music begins," said Event Committee  chair Shannon Hutchinson.

Also new for 2013 will be a bluegrass/gospel show on a Sunday  evening, which will be announced later this spring.

"We had several requests to add a bluegrass and gospel night, so  we're attempting to put together a great night of music on a Sunday  that should be fun for the whole family.  We know that genre of music  is extremely popular, so we'll be working on setting that up in the  very near future," said Hutchinson.

Bands, sponsors and more details will be released at a later date,  but mark your calendars for the opening concert on May 16, in  downtown Monticello.

"We are trying to get some things finalized, plus we're looking at  doing some other unique things this year, so it should be another  great opportunity for our local families," said Hutchinson.

The 2012 series ended with a first ever Fall Fest the last weekend  of October and plans are being made to continue that event as well in  2013.
