Annual financial reports approved by fiscal court

2-20-13 —    Wayne County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Thursday,  February 14 and took care of several matters of routine business.

    The court approved the annual financial reports for both the  Sheriff's Office and the County Clerk's Office. The Sheriff' Office  had excess fees for $6,508 for 2012.

    The County Clerk's Office had excess fees of $132,848 for 2012.

    The court approved the policies and procedures for the Detention  Center for 2013, which is required. They also heard the first reading  of an ordinance amending the 2013 budget to include $661,583 in  unbudgeted receipts.

    During the meeting, magistrates learned about two upcoming events in  the county. Wayne County will participate in the statewide tornado  safety drill on March 5 at 10:07 a.m. Outdoor warning sirens will be  activated as well as the emergency alert notification system.

    Solid Waste Coordinator Tim Bell informed magistrates that the dates  have been set for Tire Amnesty Days in Wayne County. They are April  18, 19, and 20.

    Residents can dispose of old tires free of charge by bringing them  to the state highway garage during Tire Amnesty Days. More  information about the event will be released later.

    In other action, the court:

    • Was informed that the county's new fire truck has been delivered.

    • Heard a monthly report from Jailer Ray Upchurch who noted that  

total population at the Detention Center is 150, which includes 55  

county inmates and 95 state inmates. For the month of January the  

county has billed the state $99,316.46 for housing inmates.

    • Heard a monthly report from Solid Waste Coordinator Tim Bell who  

noted that white goods were collected at 45 households during the  

month of January. Recycling sales for January totaled $5,533.56.

    • Heard a monthly report from Wayne County EMS Director Bubby Corder  

who noted that the ambulance service answered 348 calls during the  

month of January. Corder also reported that work has started on the  

county's new ambulance.
