Monticello — Wayne County traveled to Franfort for the three day state tournament on
February 18 through 20, at the Civic Center. The Mat Cardinals finished 7th
overall in the state, and third in the small school division. The top ten
teams overall were:

The team had five medal winners overall in the tournament. The
thirty-two man tournament is wrestled to eight places. Luke Troxell placed
3rd at 130 lb.; Aaron Dodd placed 5th at 140 lb.; Billy Floyd placed 5th at
189 lb.; Cody Mink placed 5th at 285 lb.; and Tyler Pace was the 9th state
champion for the wrestling program at Wayne County. He finished the season
with 34 wins and 0 losses.
The wrestlers that won matches at the state tournament were Zach Troxell
145 lb, Matthew Sullivan 152 lb., and Jordan Jones 171 lb.
The Mat Cardinals finish the season with a record of 29 wins and 6
losses in dual met action. The team was their 600th dual this year. The Mat
Cardinals won the Whitley County Dual Tournament, the Kingston Dual
Tournament, and they were the Region Eight runner-up this season.
The team will loose three seniors this year, Matthew Sullivan, Billy
Floyd and Tyler Pace. They will be missed next year with each of them
wrestling for a total of four years for the Mat Cardinals. They each
contributed in helping the Mat Cardinals win three regional championships
and runner-up. They will be missed next year.
