Wayne County 11 and 12 year old All Stars win Area 1 Championship
Monticello — The Wayne County 11 and 12 year old All-Star team captured the Area 1
Championship last week in Science Hill.
Wayne County defeated Burnside by a score or 13-0 in the opening round
game. Tyler Guffey got the win on the mound as he pitched a complete game
and had 14 strikeouts.
Wayne County defeated Pulaski County in the championship game by a score
of 5-3.
Wayne County trailed by a score of 3-0 going into the sixth and final
inning. Carson Staples and Trey Blevins had back-to-back singles and Charlie
Dishman hit a huge three-run homer to tie the score.
Tyler Guffey followed with another single and Logan Gardner connected
for a two-run homer to give Wayne County a 5-3 lead. Gardner came on in
relief of Dishman in the bottom of the sixth inning and worked a scoreless
inning securing the win for Wayne County.
With the win Wayne County advanced to the District 4 Tournament in
Harlan.
