Monticello — The Wayne County Wrestling team hosted the Region 8 tournament on
Saturday, February 13. The tournament featured twelve teams from across
Eastern Kentucky. Teams competed were Ashland Paul Blazer, Lawrence County,
Prestonburg, Johnson Central, Sheldon Clark, Perry County Central, Pike
County Central, Belfry, Letcher County Central, McCreary Central, Whitley
County and Wayne County. The tournament featured four of the top fifteen
teams in the state.
Wayne County finished as the regional runner-up with ten state
qualifiers. The Mat Cardinals had three regional championship, which
consisted of : 130 lb. Luke Troxell, 215 lb. Cody Mink and 285 lb. Tyler
Pace. Pace was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament by the
coaches and officials. The following is the breakdown of team scores and
individual winners.

The Mat Cardinals will compete in the KHSAA state tournament, on
Thursday, February 18 in Frankfort at the Civic Center. Starting time is 1
p.m. on Thursday with finals on Saturday at 6 p.m.
