Melvin McFarland, age 89, was born in Wayne County, January 6, 1921, the son of the late Robert and Letty Barnes McFarland. He passed away Sunday morning, July 18, 2010 at the Wayne County Hospital.
On April 5, 1947 he united in marriage with Mary Brian Twyford McFarland who survives. To this 63 year union one son survives-Dr. Ronald McFarland of Monticello and his sons, Ross McFarland of San Francisco, Calif.; Todd McFarland and Scott McFarland both of Monticello; and an infant sister-Marie McFarland.
Also surviving are three grandchildren-Devin, Kadyn and Carly McFarland; two sisters-Irene Kinnett and Virginia Atwood.
He is preceded in death by his grandson-Chris McFarland; brothers-C.A.
and Tom McFarland.
Melvin served his country with honor during the Second World War. He was a retired automobile mechanic, an avid golfer and a lifelong member of the Monticello First Baptist Church.
The funeral service was held Wednesday evening at the First Baptist Church with Bro. Chad Fugitt and Bro. Dennis Wheeler officiating. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
